We had two sea days on our Norway cruise, one on day 2 (first full day) and one on day 7 (our last night on the ship). There is a ton to do on sea days (character meets, quizzes, crafts, talks) and we were really looking forward to exploring, getting to know the ship and fully immersing ourselves into both Disney and cruise life.
However we all know our life never follows the path we believe it is meant to take and if there is going to be any drama, you are looking at this family. We woke that first morning on ship ready for the day, full of joy and wonder and then Riley threw up, and again and again. We gave him another hour/two in bed hoping to reset him but when he got up he threw up again and again. As a side note here, he wasn’t ‘sick’ he was sea sick. The ship was rocking from side to side, as in bounce off the walls of the corridor, rocking.
Even the cast members were struggling and saying it was some of the worst seas they had experienced (got to love the North sea). We decided to bundle him up in his wheelchair and try to salvage the day. We had him on natural medicine patches and Kwells tablets, none of which were helping. So upon wheeling him down to the shop, we picked up some Dramamine (which we have since found out we can get complimentary from medical bay or customer services) and this knocked him out cold for several hours but at least he stopped vomiting.
Samantha spent some of this time in the kids club (which she loved), we had a gentle wander around the ship and a strop about the lack of sizing in the shops. We did a talk on gemstones, well it was meant to be but it was actually a sales pitch for diamonds international. I can’t complain too much though as after the talk we were each given a raffle ticket and Rich won (me) a pair of $250 diamond stud earrings. Luckily by the time we had dinner that night (8.30) Riley had started to come round from the meds and was feeling a little better. By the time sorcerer Mickey visited our table Riley was feeling much better and actually eating, so Mickey mouse for the win.
Our second sea day went much better. We went to a ton of character meets, we did several craft ‘classes’ (scrap booking, 3D crafts), we did some animation drawing classes, we attempted the towel animal class (it did not go well as the staff were far too fast with their instructions and with patience wearing out we made a quick exit), and the kids had several sessions in the kids club. We bounced from one end of the ship to the other and back again and regret none of it.
We all agree (even Riley) that although the ports were amazing we all loved our sea days albeit the second significantly more than the first.
