Family update highs and lows

1st May 2021

So a fair bit has happened since February. We are still thinking that 2021 is a sucky year but we don’t think it is going to suck (hopefully) as much as we originally believed and we are hoping by the end of the year, as a family we are all in a much better place.

Fidget

Is not dead. This was a real worry the last time we spoke. She went through many, many tests and it turned out she had giardia (a nasty parasite, which of course is not stopped by the usual worming tablets) she had to go on a course of antiparasitic medication, tablets to help support her pancreas which was struggling and specialist food to help support her digestive system, which had taken a hit but she seems on the mend (and it does not appear to be the scary liver shunt that we were originally told). She is back to full strength, full of energy (we really did forget what she was like before all of this), she has stopped vomiting and pooping blood. We have started to transition her back to normal food again, we have had one set back. We don’t think the original food we had her on, Wainwrights, is suitable for her. We believe that it is too rich for her and so after some research we have switched her to Aldi’s grain free food and so far so good but we will see how she goes. She has her booster jabs later this month and a check up to see how she is getting on so I will update you all then.

One last thing I will say to you all on this subject this month is if you don’t have pet insurance, run out and get it now. For the cost of it (about £100) it has saved us £1000’s and it was one less stress through all of this. No matter what, we knew we didn’t have to worry about what it was costing us and when speaking to the vet it turns out it is scary the amount of people who still don’t have insurance and their animals care suffers as a result. OK I will get off my preacher’s box now.

*Since we are so bad at getting these uploaded on time at the moment I can update you. Fidget has been given a clean bill of health. She is continuing to gain weight at a healthy rate, she has had all her booster jabs now and we are beginning to reintroduce some ‘normal’ foods to her. As a side note, Aldi changed their food a few weeks later and it no longer agreed with her so we had to switch to a new brand of grain free food which so far, so good. Hopefully the world leaves this recipe alone. We have our fidgy furball back and hopefully we have her for many, many more energetic years to come.

Me

After several tests I do not have hoohar cancer. Everything is fine and I have been given the all clear. Thankfully it appears my body was just having a funny five minutes, got to love being a woman, and all is back to normal. The important thing was I went to the DR’s got it all checked out and didn’t wait on it. No it wasn’t pleasant, yes I lost a little more of my dignity again (if I had any left after two children) but I know for both my sake and my families I am in the clear, it’s just not worth the risk.

Lela

Is finally being recognised for her awesomeness and is getting a promotion. She has just been promoted to room leader after the owner of the nursery came down and realised she was doing it anyway and more to the point was doing a damn good job of it.

The children

Are still alive, which after the last update was touch and go as we weren’t sure they weren’t going to kill each other but they did actually manage to survive the last lock down.

They have gone back to school now. It is not going well and we are seriously considering home educating in the next school year. Their mental health is deteriorating since going back to school. Meltdowns are increasing and we don’t see any other way out of it. They thrive when they are at home, school seems to break every fibre of their being and it kills us to watch. 9 working weeks of school left.

As a family

We are beginning to make tentative plans on stepping out into the real world and out of our bubble. We are not quite ready yet but have started to make plans for when we are. We are looking forward to days out again and are looking forward to exploring more of the UK. We are looking forward to seeing family again. we haven’t seen some in such a long time.

We are beginning to plan for holidays next year. We are beginning to see a future. For now we are enjoying our garden and the wonderful sunshine we have been having recently and enjoying spending time together as a family, anxieties and all.
