Please be gentle

It is hard when people always see you as the strong one, the fighter, the aggressor. It is crippling when they don’t see just how fragile and breakable you actually are. Yes, as special needs Momma’s (and Dadda’s) we need to be strong. We always need our battle faces on in public. We need to be indestructible for our babies but people need to remember most of the time this is a front, underneath we are breakable we just can’t afford to show it. Be gentle with us. Believe me when I say we need it more than most.

Constantly being in a state of fight or flight puts a person’s mental health and emotional well being in a very fragile and frazzled state and you don’t know if that unkind, judgemental or thoughtless thing you say to them today will be the thing that breaks them. I’m not trying to preach or sound judgy, I’m just saying think. Be kind, we are not as strong as you think we are.
