So life has been out of my control a lot lately. I am waiting on lots of things to happen that I have sent off that I now cannot control one way or the other, DLA forms, blue badges, passports. I am in the midst of a huge pain flare and having to spend more time on the sofa than I would like, on more morphine than I would like. I don’t like not being in control, especially when it’s not in control of my life or how my body is working. How do I fix this you may ask well I start looking at things I can control and things that will make me happy… holidays!
I began looking at Disney world but with so many restrictions (our restrictions, not travel restrictions) it just wasn’t possible. I then started looking at Disneyland Paris but it’s expensive for what it is and it’s not Disney World but you know I still earmarked it because it’s better than no Disney. I then began looking at Disneyland California, warning Lela at this point I had fallen down a rabbit hole and not sure I was going to be able to make it back out.
I would love to visit California at some point and walk down the main street of Walt Disney’s original park, the one he built himself, but alas now is not the right time.
The reality is we only have one weeks holiday from work. Although we have a decent holiday budget we don’t just want to throw away money like we don’t need it, i.e. the current cost of Floridian flights and we have left it too late to get any really good deals.
We would like to do something different but we all miss Disney so badly that it hurts. But wait! There was an option I hadn’t explored yet. Disney cruise line (DCL).
We had (Lela and I) been wanting to do a Disney cruise since we saw the UK based ones doing the rounds last year (2021). At the time it hadn’t felt like the right time for us but now… So I began to have a little mooch around the site and discovered a 7 night cruise to Norway. Well we (the adults) had always fancied Norway but with how expensive the country was a floating hotel seemed a much better option. We found two indoor rooms would be cheaper than one family room with a veranda and although expensive it was reasonable considering what’s included.
Ok we couldn’t book straight away (and not just because Fidget had decided I had spent enough time on the laptop) as our holiday week from work was booked for two weeks later than the sailing date so people would need conversations with bosses. I had two days to wait before I would find out if I would be allowed to book. Humph!
Upon researching, since I was stuck on the sofa with pain I threw myself into distraction, I found everybody over 5 years old had to be vaccinated (true at time of blogging April 2022), that very day we had the letter turn up for Riley to book his vaccines. I just want to put in here, we are not just vaccinating him for a holiday, we were fully intending on vaccinating him as soon as we could (personal choice, no bashing please). We can’t get the children done straight away as they are still in their 12 week window after having covid but we will just have enough time to have them fully vaccinated before sailing.
I spent my weekend watching Disney Magic cruise vlogs, you know just to get a feel for the ship and researching the DCL Norway cruise. It just felt right for us. Now could we get the time off?
Lela messaged first about half an hour after starting work, her boss had arranged things so she could have that week and Rich also managed later in the day to swap the week.
After a stressful half an hour, trying to get rooms and filling in details, we were booked. We are sailing for a week in September on the 7 night Norwegian fjords cruise. We are so insanely excited we can barely contain it.
We are already planning outfits and ears and are excited to not only have an aeroplane holiday booked this year but a Disney different holiday too.
With lots of plans and itineraries to be made there should be a whole influx of blogs coming your way.
See y’all real soon.
